Momentum is one of the best solar panel installation companies for system customization, as it offers equipment from seven different solar manufacturers. Although its service area is limited to only 11 states, Momentum has intentionally expanded only to states with well-established net metering programs. Momentum will also help its customers apply for solar incentives and rebates available where they live.

Keep reading to learn more about Momentum’s services, financing options, customer satisfaction and pros and cons.

Here are a few top highlights to consider about Momentum Solar:

Momentum Solar offers solar installations in 11 states: Arizona, California, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Massachusetts, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania and Texas. However, it only offers solar battery installations in California, Florida, New Jersey, New York and Texas.

Momentum Solar follows a standardized installation process to custom-build and install solar panels. This process will meet your energy needs in power output and financial goals.

Momentum currently installs solar panels and partners with Enphase to install solar batteries. Customers can also monitor their system’s energy production through the Momentum Solar App.

Momentum Solar works with various manufacturers to provide solar panels for your solar system. However, it only works with Tier 1 solar panels. As outlined by the Bloomberg New Energy Finance Corporation (BNEF), Tier 1 panels must have been used for six projects financed by six different banks. In short, it ensures the bankability of the solar panels used.

This criteria also means that Momentum provides monocrystalline photovoltaic (PV) solar panels. Mono solar panels, as they are often called, are currently the most efficient option on the market and have the longest solar panel lifespan, averaging between 25 and 40 years.

The company has also started offering solar battery products from Enphase. The Enphase Encharge is a battery backup system that stores excess electricity produced by your solar system, so your home has continued access to energy when your panels are not producing electricity. This device provides electricity even during power outages. In addition, it leads to further savings by employing the Enpower Smart Switch, which automatically detects a power outage and switches your source from the power grid to your solar battery.

Momentum Solar also uses Enphase Energy for its inverters, and it mainly uses microinverters. These inverters convert renewable energy directly at each panel rather than at multiple junction boxes and inverters. This design simplifies your solar system and helps you cut back on additional labor costs.

Momentum currently offers a 25-year workmanship and equipment warranty, which means if your equipment is faulty or installed improperly, Momentum will fix these issues, free of charge. Unfortunately, Momentum does not currently offer a power performance guarantee. That means if your solar panels produce less energy than expected, you cannot receive any reimbursement.

Momentum customers paid, on average, between $20,000 and $25,000 for their solar power system, according to our 2023 poll of 1,000 homeowners with solar. That being said, how much you pay for your solar panel system depends on where you live, how much energy you use, the solar rebates and incentives available where you live, and more. (Keep in mind that all U.S. homeowners with solar are also eligible for the 30% federal solar tax credit).

Momentum Solar offers several payment options: upfront cash purchase, solar loan, and solar lease or Power Purchase Agreement (PPA). If you choose to purchase in cash or finance your panels, you will own your solar system. If you enter a lease or PPA agreement, you will “rent” your panels for a low monthly cost over the length of the term agreement.

Momentum Solar currently holds an A+ rating on the Better Business Bureau (BBB) and accreditation from the site.* Many positive reviews discuss the professionalism of Momentum’s installation process and the quality of its panels and services. More critical reviews tend to focus on the company’s aggressive sales tactics and spam phone calls. When we reached out to Momentum about the negative reviews and cons listed in this article, the company did not provide a response.

“Momentum Solar is a very professional company. From sales to installation, everything went smoothly. The [well-trained] install crew finished everything in less than a day. I am very happy with the whole process and look forward to the benefits of lower electricity costs” —Howard L. via BBB

“We highly recommend [Momentum] and show everyone our electric bill and the app so they can see we do not pay for power at all since we got solar and how much power we generate from only 8 panels. We have a 2,000 sq. ft. house and live in Connecticut so we don’t make much power during the cold months but make enough during the summer to make up for the lost power in winter.” —Mickey F. via BBB

“Repeatedly called me [multiple] times in one day, little minutes or seconds after each other. Left 4-5 messages in one day to confirm my appointment which I never set and didn’t ask for. When [I] told them I didn’t have an appointment they asked me to set one. When I told them to take me off their list they called literally 2 seconds later again. I blocked all numbers they were calling from.” —Jensen G. via BBB

“After 3 months of waiting for panels to be installed, no one from Momentum had the respect or professional courtesy to call me and inform me that my roof is at a [10-degree] pitch, and their requirements must have [a] roof pitch at 12 degrees or more. Apparently[,] they don’t have [the] hardware to increase my roof pitch to 12!” —John F. via BBB

If you are in Momentum Solar’s service area, the company makes a top contender for your investment in renewable energy. The company’s focus on established net-metering programs means you are already on track for significant savings. Although there are some concerns over Momentum’s scheduling and spam calls, it still provides a thorough installation process that meets your specific needs and budget. This process makes Momentum an excellent solar provider for homeowners concerned about easy integration and accessibility with switching to solar.

Compare Momentum to other top solar companies, Sunrun Solar, SunPower, and ADT Solar.

Momentum Solar is headquartered in South Plainfield, New Jersey, but currently operates in 11 states: Arizona, California, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Massachusetts, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania and Texas. However, it only installs solar batteries in California, Florida, New Jersey, New York and Texas.

Momentum Solar supplies monocrystalline solar panels from various manufacturers, such as QCells, REC, Trina and Hyundai.

Momentum offers free quotes, but its services and equipment are not free. Although you may hear talk in the solar industry about “free” solar panels, solar panels are never free. However, some financing, leasing or PPA agreements may be available for $0 down.

Depending on a solar system’s power output, your home could run solely on solar power. However, if you have higher energy requirements, you will need a larger system to operate solely on solar.
